Denver is the home to several authentic Mexican restaurants which provide Midwestern Mexican food styles, flavors, and culture.
Flavors
One of the main differences between Denver’s Mexican food and that which is found anywhere else in the US, is the signature green Chile sauce in many of the dishes served in Denver’s Mexican restaurants. Midwestern Green Chile sauce is derived by the use of Hatch Chilies and often served with pork. This is much different from the Green Verde sauce that most people on the coasts are most familiar with.
Styles
Another key difference between Denver’s Mexican food and that which is found anywhere else in the US, is how food is prepared in many of the dishes served in Denver’s Mexican restaurants. One will be quick to notice that Chile Rellenos are prepared much differently than in many of the country’s chain Mex restaurants. Unlike midwestern Chile Rellenos, many Chile Rellenos severed in chain restaurants do not use Poblano peppers, are often filled and/or topped with “Tex-Mex” ingredients, and are not battered using traditional methods.
Culture
There are a wide variety of Mexican Restaurants in Denver, each of which immerse patrons with unique blend of Mexico’s music, artwork, and people.
