Rockin’ & Rollin’ at Red Rocks

Located about ten miles west of Denver, the Red Rocks Amphitheatre is an open-air Amphitheatre built into a rock structure near Morrison, Colorado, and is one of the world’s most iconic concert venues. Some of the world’s greatest musicians ever known have performed here. Some of the most memorable concerts in Red Rocks history include performances from: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, John Denver, and U2.

Red Rocks performances are so memorable, that many artists have released audio and video recordings of their performances there. The Red Rocks experience goes beyond the music itself. The iconic rock formations and position above Denver add a powerful mystique. Early-evening concerts are especially momentous, as the waning rays of a Colorado sunset frame the stage and paint the setting with pastel colors.

While attending concerts at the landmark Red Rock Amphitheatre may be on hold for now, the Red Rocks are still a great place to visit, and are one place to bookmark in the itinerary for any Denver tour. In the heart of Golden, the Red Rocks are a great place to hike or bike, and offer a great view of Denver’s skyline.

The Front Range of Colorado has rock known as the Fountain Formation that begins 14,000 feet underground, then works its way to the surface at angle. A lot of it is hidden beneath dirt and rock, but when it gets exposed above ground, it creates incredible monuments of red sandstone. There are hiking trails that begin as far north as Fort Collins, and run all the way down south of Colorado Springs that wind through these strange rock features. There are many Red Rock hikes to choose from, and we have profiled those which are closest to Denver for you to explore!
